Thank you for taking the time to check out our site. You have taken the first step to learning about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Listed below are some commonly asked questions about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and what the sport entails. Feel free to contact us about or with further questions you may have by using our Contact Us form.

What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on grappling and especially ground based attacks with the goal of gaining a dominant position and using joint-locks and chokeholds to force an opponent to submit.

What is the principle philosophy of BJJ?

BJJ promotes the principle that a smaller, weaker person using leverage and proper technique can successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger assailant.

What can I expect to get out of BJJ?

BJJ is first and foremost a self defense art. While the sporting aspect is very fun and popular, our primary concern is to teach our students how to realistically defend themselves in  a combative situation. But for those who wish to compete in sport jiu jitsu, we have a competion team and love competeing in local and national tournaments.

How much do you charge?

At the Cincinnati Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy we prefer to be judged on our teaching ability and our facility rather than our price. We are extremely competitive in our pricing and will gladly lay out our price structure when you come in for a visit. If you are new to the art, your first class is free, and our doors are always open if you would simply like to come in and watch a class. We look forward to seeing you on the mat!

Do I need a uniform?

Yes. We teach in the traditional Gracie way with the Kimono. We do have them for sale at our facility or you can order one online. We only allow white or blue kimonos.

Do you offer any price discounts?

Yes. We offer a 10% discount to all military personnel, law enforcement personnel, and first responders.
